This history is much needed and helpful in understanding the decision to laicize Fr. Pavone.

I was shocked when I heard the news, but I was sure there had to be more to it than I knew. After I saw the outcry on social media and heard from a couple of friends, I figured it would be good to dive into it. I’m glad it was helpful. Please share it with whomever you think could benefit from it!

There is a lot of talk on social media about Fr. James Martin remaining a priest while Mr. Pavone is not. There do seem to some similarities between the two while they’re of different political persuasions. What is your take on this?

It boils down to obedience. Fr. Martin’s errors are theological and require censure and correction. Pavone’s errors are different and all revolve around obedience (and the 2016 blasphemous use of baby’s body on an altar).

I think it’s a monochromatic view that boils everything down to politics. This isn’t political.

Very well researched and articulated. What an eye opener! Thank you for filling in the gaps.
