I don't have direct problem with Luce. I think that we need to think outside the box a bit when it comes to evangelize. This coming from the guy who builds churches with LEGO. We are so quick to dismiss these kinds of things and yet you never know how it might reach out to someone. The question I have to everyone is this: How Do you Share the faith with others? How do you use YOUR talents in service to Christ?
I have no problem with it, in principle! I think there is certainly a place for it. And I think I’ve softened a bit on this since writing this initial response. My issue is that the Jubilee Year really doesn’t need a mascot and, if it does have some sort of artwork, there should be a universal quality to it.
This is very niche. I know anime is popular. And for the convention that the Church was participating in in Italy, I think it’s perfect!!
I’m just wondering why we are paying someone who is so questionable to produce something for the Church. Surely there are faithful Catholic artists that ought to be commissioned for such things.
Maybe I just don’t like anime and am becoming a grouch. Ha!
You bring up some excellent questions. And everyone should jump in with their own talents. And we should all be sharing the faith in our own particular ways! Thanks for the reminder, John!

Who I’d the artist who did the holy family? I love it!
New Jerusalem Studios, here in Phoenix, AZ!
Thank you! I’ll check it out!
I wonder how many kids now will ask their parents to let them dye their hair and wear a rosary as a necklace?
I wonder why children’s cartoons are vividly coloured, when Caravaggio’s colours are so much richer. If only there was a known reason for this…
